We work with clients in the banking/finance, healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, technology, and federal markets. NCG develops tooling and automated platforms to support its professional services practices and is in the process of deploying a SaaS platform that will make some of its tooling available to broader markets. We have an internal development team that develops, maintains, and continuously improves our automation. Opportunity Description The AWS Kubernetes Engineer must have demonstrated experience and the ability to design, manage, and support Kubernetes environments within Amazon Web Services, along with broader cloud infrastructure, including Compute, networking, and database services. Daily tasks will include cluster monitoring, infrastructure configuration, and troubleshooting as needed, while ensuring that best practices, security standards, and compliance methodologies are followed. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to effectively format and deliver information to the appropriate audience (e.g., technical, executive, and client). Experience with multi-cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, as well as familiarity with cloud-native tools and DevOps practices, is preferred. All applicants must be able to undergo a successful background check. The position will be based out of either NCG’s Portland, Maine, Marquette, Michigan, or Arlington, Virginia offices.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working with Kubernetes in production environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services, including:
  • Compute: EC2, Auto Scaling, Load Balancers
  • Containers: EKS, ECS (nice to have)
  • Databases: RDS, MySQL
  • Networking: VPC, Subnets, Route Tables, Security Groups
  • Identity & Security: IAM roles, policies, and best practices
  • Monitoring: CloudWatch, CloudTrailStorage: S3, EBS
  • Experience with containerization tools like Docker
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred)
  • Experience with Linux systems and networking fundamentals
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Understanding of cloud security principles and best practices
  • Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, agile environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, as well as familiarity with cloud-native tools and DevOps practices

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage Kubernetes clusters using Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service)
  • Deploy and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Architect and manage core AWS infrastructure including Compute, networking, and databases
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments
  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and cost optimization across cloud platforms
  • Implement infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Ensure security best practices across clusters, networking, and IAM configurations
  • Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize application performance and scalability
  • Support multi-cloud strategies involving Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE)
  • Maintain documentation and best practices for cloud-native deployments
