About The Position

Leads Bakery department and staff, including financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training, and performance management. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment. Ensures the department provides an exceptional customer shopping experience, with the highest level of service and product knowledge. This is a management position. Requirements

  • As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365 days/year. Our in-store positions are likely to include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts per the needs of the business. All staff must complete and maintain all required food and work safety trainings and/or certifications.
  • Previous customer service, food service, retail, or grocery experience required. Barista experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Knowledge of and experience working with bread including baking artisan bread products, pastry, and coffee/tea products in a café or retail environment required. Previous experience with ordering/inventory management required.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Intermediate level experience with MS Office. Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software and ability to learn new technology/software preferred.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales, and profit margin.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provides oversight to all areas of the department. Assesses, prioritizes, and delegates tasks and production.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions. Ensures all areas of department are stocked, rotated, faced, and adhere to merchandising standards and category schematics.
  • Responsible for satisfactory in-stock conditions in department. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Responsible for addressing quality, consistency, and production issues.
  • Orders bakery and pastry products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals. Trains staff to write orders consistent with department goals and standards to ensure the highest level of product availability.
  • Plans for weekly ads, events and holidays using tools and reports.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products to make attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
  • Produces and ensures production of bakery products in accordance with company and regulatory agency standards.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of labor, sales, and margin goals and factors that influence them. Meets labor and margin goals. Develops and executes a plan when results do not meet expectations.
  • Responsible for addressing quality, consistency, and production issues.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Oversees beverage programs ensuring quality and consistency in all offered beverages. Prepares coffee and other beverages to customer and vendor specifications.
  • Coordinates slicing, weighing, packaging, and labelling, of finished product.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count, and condition. Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Ensures compliance with organic standards.
  • Stocks, rotates, and merchandises bakery and pastry products.
  • Plans, leads, and analyzes the monthly perishable inventory.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of products in the department and general understanding of culinary terminology, product labeling, and common dietary restrictions.
  • Shares product knowledge with customers and staff. Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs. Establishes consistent program for communicating product information and knowledge to staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and manage own time. Adjusts priorities, productivity, efficiency, and speed based on needs and conditions of department and store.
  • Provides oversight to all areas of the department. Directly manages all department staff, including performance management and review writing, scheduling, and providing ongoing training, coaching, development and feedback. Assesses, prioritizes and delegates tasks and production.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of basic Human Resources concepts; works with resources at store level to increase knowledge. Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication systems.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
