About The Position

The Baler Operator is responsible for removing and baling scrap from machine centers. The person in this position is responsible for operating a baler and hogger in a safe and efficient manner, fulfilling requirements set forth by the customer of recycled corrugated board. Preventive maintenance and good safety practices are also required.

Requirements

• Safety sensitive position – ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as required based upon the needs of the business
• Ability to work on a rotating shift as needed
• Ability to effectively work in teams
• Ability to work in a production-based environment with moving equipment and people
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of roles
• Able to identify each machine center
• Basic math and reading skills

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to safety and perform job duties in accordance with company safety policies and procedures
• Demonstrate commitment to quality and perform job duties in adherence to GMP guidelines
• Collect scrap from all machine centers and ensure that carts, skids etc. do not build up to unsafe levels
• Complete process waste forms accurately
• Identify and mark all scrap from each machine center
• Operate scale and weigh all scrap
• Operate shredder and balers in a safe and efficient manner
• Understand functions and controls of the baler and hogger
• Respool baler and clean tie guards
• Must be familiar with safety features of the baler and hogger
• Free baler system of jam-ups
• Free Cyclone of jam-ups
• Fill out process waste tags
• Fill out corrugator tally sheet
• Identify and save stock for tops and bottoms
• Record bale weight information and notify shipping when a pickup is needed
• Perform minor preventive maintenance on scale, shredder/baler and all other related equipment as needed
• Play an active role in the maintenance and cleanliness of assigned equipment and surrounding work area, especially in the baler room, shredder and scale areas
• Perform miscellaneous job functions as necessary to aid in production or quality
• Report any unsafe issues to supervisor
• Understand department communication systems, schedules, time/attendance system and job reporting requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned by management/supervisors
