About The Position

The Base Crew Foreman is a hands-on field leader responsible for managing a crew focused on aggregate base preparation in support of asphalt paving operations. This role ensures that stone base is properly placed, shaped, and fine graded to meet elevations, drainage requirements, and paving tolerances. The Foreman sets the pace for the crew, maintains quality standards, and coordinates daily activities with the Superintendent. This position plays a critical role in preparing the foundation for paving and requires precision, strong leadership, and a clear understanding of base work and paving support operations.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience in aggregate base work, paving preparation, or asphalt operations
  • Prior crew leadership or foreman experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of stone base placement, grading for paving, and drainage
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, grade stakes, and specifications
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work in outdoor construction environments and maintain productivity in a fast-paced setting
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with company drug and alcohol policies

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in daily field operations for base and paving support crews
  • Oversee placement, shaping, and fine grading of aggregate base materials
  • Ensure base is prepared to proper elevation, slope, compaction, and drainage requirements
  • Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and elevations
  • Coordinate crew activities, equipment, and trucking to maintain production flow
  • Enforce safety policies and conduct daily pre-task meetings
  • Monitor and ensure quality workmanship and adherence to specifications
  • Manage crew attendance, timekeeping, and daily productivity expectations
  • Communicate equipment, material needs, and job site issues to the Superintendent
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites
  • Train and mentor crew members to improve skill level, safety awareness, and efficiency
  • Document daily activities, production, and job progress
