About The Position

As a BDA Fire Alarm Service Technician at Encore, you will be a key part of keeping our customers’ life safety systems operating the way they should when it matters most. You will inspect, test, program, service, and troubleshoot a wide range of fire alarm systems, making sure they are compliant, reliable, and ready to perform. This is a field-based role with a lot of variety and autonomy. You will move from site to site, solve problems in real-time, and work directly with customers, contractors, and internal teams. For a technician who takes pride in doing precise work, communicating clearly, and leaving systems better than they were found, this role offers long-term career growth in a critical industry.

Requirements

  • Must have an active FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License or equivalent
  • Experience with BDA/ERRCS or public safety DAS systems (1-3 years preferred)
  • Strong understanding of RF theory, signal propagation, coaxial infrastructure, and donor antenna alignment
  • Ability to operate RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal meters, PIM testers, sweep gear).
  • Knowledge of cabling standards: plenum coax, connectors, splitters, couplers, attenuators.
  • Comfortable working on lifts, ladders, rooftops, and mechanical spaces.
  • Ability to read prints and work with project managers on material lists and layouts.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and customer-service skills.
  • NICET certifications (preferred but not required)

Nice To Haves

  • You have three or more years of experience inspecting, servicing, or repairing fire alarm systems.
  • You have NICET certification in water-based systems for inspection, testing, or layout.
  • You have experience supporting both service and small project work, not just one or the other.
  • You have helped mentor or support apprentices or less experienced technicians in the field.
  • You have worked across multiple manufacturers and are comfortable adapting to different panels and devices.
  • You are known for clean, complete documentation, and for keeping customers informed without being prompted.

Responsibilities

  • Test and install Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) to enhance emergency responder radio coverage in buildings.
  • Integrate BDA systems with Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP) and ensure proper signaling and compliance.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and documentation related to project activities and progress.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, project managers, and inspectors.
