About The Position

The Before and After School Lead Teacher is a year round position responsible to plan, organize, implement, coordinate, and control services of the child care program. Provides leadership and direction for part-time staff and children, ensures positive communication with parents, children, schools, and other staff; practices risk management; and develops positive community relations. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age or older.
  • Two years or full time equivalent in management experience a minimum of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Elementary Education or possess equivalent educational background in courses relating to child care.
  • You are committed to completing STARS training within 60 days of hire (the YMCA will support you in achieving this state requirement).
  • Meet minimum Washington State Administrative Code by obtaining the full 30 college quarter credits within the next 4 years to continue employment.
  • Previous experience working with children in a child care setting
  • Knowledge of school-aged child development
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Sensitivity to the needs of families including adults and children
  • Have CPR, Basic First Aid, Food Handlers.
  • You are willing to obtain a Food Handlers permit (cost reimbursable), complete a pre-employment TB skin test with negative results (YMCA will assist in this process. and proof of MMR vaccination (before the first day of employment)
  • Washington State Driver's license (when applicable) with current copy of driving abstract
  • Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.
  • Must be able to successfully complete required DCYF background and fingerprint checks before the first day of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Come alongside school personnel to support academic goals and plans for children and the school.
  • Maintain positive public relations with members and always represent the best interests of the YMCA.
  • Conduct parent conferences, and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Engage parents as volunteers.
  • Work closely with program director and branch leadership team to advocate for team needs and collaborate on partnership opportunities when appropriate.
  • Provide feedback and deliver on onboarding of new site staff; implement training guidelines, including shadowing and coaching new staff during program.
  • Plan to meet monthly with program director and/or leadership team to create plans on implementation of branch top priorities and provide support to region on reaching those targets.
  • Ensure program maintains in conformance with all YMCA policies and procedures as well as the Washington Administrative Code.
  • Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and our YMCA values which includes implementation of proximity praise, specific action compliments, and our 8 Points of Leadership.
  • Maintain program site and equipment including properly implementing proper cleaning procedures and upkeep of equipment.
  • Attend and participates in family nights and program activities.
  • Recruit children for program; maintain accurate records of the children to include their development, attendance, immunization, and general health.
  • Train, encourage, and lead all staff members utilizing the Leadership Competency Development Guide.
  • Monitor staff progress; implementing training matrix.
  • Maintain positive interactions with staff members.
  • Understand and train staff on the Washington Administrative Code to ensure program is in compliance at all times.
  • Ensure that problems encountered by staff are resolved.
  • Set expectations of site leaders and provide opportunity for questions; provide feedback to site leader on those expectations.
  • Work towards obtaining Team Leader Certification from Y-USA.
  • Keep all certificates current.
  • Ensure staff files are kept current and complete.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and leadership to new site staff following training guidelines and create follow up plans throughout the school year.
  • Support program director in implementation of training plans for region.
  • Distribute marketing materials as needed to increase enrollment.
  • Manage day-to-day activities at the program as well as connect with school personnel as an expanded learning representative.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in facilities, school, and community sites.
  • Treat every participant fairly and equally regardless of circumstances and abilities, making each feel good about themselves and encouraging a fun environment.
  • Greet all parents daily and inform them of all program changes. Communicate frequently with parents concerning their child's behavior, academic progress and socialization in the program.
  • Directly supervise children at all times and maintain program/site in compliance with state licensing standards.
  • Keep all child files complete and up to date.
  • Follow the guidelines, policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies, in the YMCA Staff and Parent Handbooks and Association Staff Handbook. Complete all required forms daily and monthly.
  • Dispense medication according to the Medication Authorization Form and maintain accurate records of such. Ensure proper storage of medication according to required standards. Return medication to parents/guardian, as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with licensors, site leaders, program director, and team.
  • Plan and develop a daily schedule of classroom routines and activities. Prepare and implement curriculum. Provide an integrated, child centered, comprehensive curriculum and multicultural environment, which meets the needs of every child, including those with disabilities.
  • Plan and meet with school principal on a monthly basis to discuss how the YMCA and your program can support the school's academic targets and goals.
  • Plan and participate in monthly connectivity hours.
  • Set every child up for success; implement "Plan of Success" form when needed and meet with all parties involved to create a plan to success.
  • Assume other responsibilities as mutually agreed upon with supervisor.
  • Understand and be able to explain financial assistance to staff and members.
  • Understand and monitor FTE's and enrollment number in program. Program should reach licensed capacity and plans should be created to increase that number. Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Participate in the Annual Campaign by reaching site goal and asking 100% of the parents in the program.
  • Recruit at least 1-3 parents to be an Annual Campaign volunteer.
  • Support the program director and region team by coming alongside and strategizing on a region-wide approach on how each program will reach given goal.
  • Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.
  • Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.
  • Staff are expected to adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of PPE.
