About The Position

We are looking for Behavior Support Technicians to join our Education Team in our Intensive Treatment Program classrooms for students ages 5-21 in Lackawanna, NY (just 10 minutes south of Buffalo)! Our Intensive Treatment Education Program, operating two different schools, offers specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis. The Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) will include working with adolescents, typically 12 – 21 years old that are diagnosed on the Autism spectrum with mental health concerns and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Behavior Technician- ITP working in a residential and educational setting is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based methods to support individuals with Autism and/or Intellectual Disability and mental health involvement. The methods include Applied Behavior Analysis approaches; classroom observation; observation in residential setting; data collection; supporting staff to implement individual behavior protocols and behavior intervention plans; and treatment integrity monitoring. In addition, regular assistance with personal hygiene tasks is required. Each individual also may be assigned to one or more special projects including administrative and organization tasks associated with these assignments.

Requirements

  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel in particular)
  • Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma
  • Minimum Experience preferred: 3-5 years in the development/implementation of behavior support plans with individuals who have developmental disabilities and/or mental health concerns.
  • Must demonstrate basic knowledge and competencies in Applied Behavioral Analysis

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic sign language a plus, but not a requirement
  • Preferred: Associates Degree or Higher in Human Services, Special Education or related field
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
  • Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA)

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient searches and patient belongings searches. Understands the contraband list.
  • Takes an active role in participating in and supporting a therapeutic and safe milieu.
  • Develops a working knowledge of therapeutic interventions and interactions.
  • Observes behaviors and communicates to the supervisor, medical, and others as appropriate.
  • Works cooperatively with the treatment team in the collection of pertinent data to assist in the development of the individualized treatment plan and Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Implements the behavioral plan developed specifically for the individual.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to regarding the individual’s response to the behavior plan.
  • Responsible for the administration and teaching of ADLs as required.
  • Responsible for assistance with personal hygiene tasks, as required.
  • Basic knowledge of sensory equipment use and how to provide successful sensory integration to individuals as indicated by their sensory menu and needs assessment.
  • Understands and utilizes the hand over hand prompts as indicated by the treatment plan.
  • Knowledge of normal growth and development and the impact of the developmental disabilities on the individual and his/her family.
  • Has basic knowledge of alternative communication techniques including AAC devices and basic sign language.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement individual schedules (sensory schedules, milieu programming, toileting…etc) that are indicated in the behavioral plan.
  • Utilizes and updates the visual schedule for all activities.
  • Uses token and other earning systems throughout the shift following the individualized behavior plan.
  • Maintains compliance with supervision status of individuals (Visual Observation While Awake, 1:1) and freedom of movement (In-house, On Grounds) as indicated by physician order and/or Program Director directive.
  • Attends and participates in community meetings, groups and milieu programming.
  • Understands and implements strength based interventions.
  • Attends staff meetings at a minimum of one time per month.
  • Performs all scheduled cleaning tasks and environmental rounds.
  • Understands how to relay information to peers regarding up to date information and provide feedback to the treatment team.
  • Any other duty as assigned by your supervisor.
