About The Position

The Behavioral Health Education Specialist (BHES) serves as the educational backbone for the BHC team, ensuring consistent competency development, standardized training delivery, and sustainable mentorship structures that support clinical excellence and team growth. What you will do Practice: Coordinates programs for staff that assures departmental compliance with systems that promote quality patient/family centered care that is equitable, timely, effective, efficient, safe. Utilizes needs assessment data, evaluation data, strategic plan and organizational initiatives to develop or revise educational programs. Leads and/or develops educational programs for healthcare professionals. Supports educational needs of staff in order to provide patient and family education. Establishes systems to assure annual competency assessment. Comprehends and utilizes patient satisfaction data, QI data, incident report data and other forms of feedback to improve programs that support care provided to patients/families. Exhibits culturally effective family centered care, immediately investigates patient/family complaints and provides prompt feedback. Collaborates with CHOP departments to support the ideal patient and employee experience by bringing behavioral health process and education expertise together with clinical expertise to achieve continuous and measurable improvements. Participates in Departmental/Unit Council. Promotes/contributes to practice at local, regional, and national levels. Identifies the impact of system-wide initiatives on behavioral health education. Serves as an educational resource throughout the hospital system. Models flexibility and adaptability in response to changing environment Predicts challenges and obstacles and plans for how to minimize a negative impact on staff. Develops and maintains effective partnerships with all leadership. Participates in Departmental Advancing Practice/Education Council and others as necessary. Research: Applies research-based practice to all behavioral health activities. Benchmarks internal and external best practice in the planning and implementation of educational programs. Seeks opportunities to promote research activities: generates research ideas; assists staff in utilization of research and evidence- based practice. Conducts Return on Investment on select programs Reads and analyzes scholarly articles and research studies and seeks ways to apply findings to practice. Learning: Exhibits a Learning Orientation by examining successes and failures to improve performance. Seeks out and utilizes different perspectives, methods and solutions in order to find the best ideas Consults with staff at unit level to facilitate learning and acquisition of new skills. Promotes the acquisition of skills for staff. Participates in unit-based activities per the unit leadership request Promotes compliance to regulatory guidelines, hospital standards, and policies and procedures. Assists team members with clarification and adherence to CHOP standards, policies and procedures. Identifies own learning needs and obtains necessary education to meet evolving requirements of position. Assesses the learning needs of staff and provides education accordingly. Participates in scholarly activities. Presents lecture, abstract or poster at regional and national conferences. Coach staff in professional development and career paths. Assist staff in the utilization of research and evidence based practice. Resource Management: responsible for efficient and cost effective utilization of Hospital resources Cooperates with other departments to establish systems that ensure that staff has supplies and equipment needed to support patient care or perform their jobs. Monitors the use of supplies and equipment used for programs and implements systems to improve or minimize waste and misuse. Seeks ways to assure financially responsible programming. Addresses issues/identifies opportunities for enhanced program efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Education or similar field of study Required
  • At least two (2) years Work experience providing care and support to patients in a behavioral health setting Required
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of teaching-learning process, communication skills (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to work collaboratively (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to be self-directed and work independently (Required proficiency)
  • Broad base in behavioral health and significant teaching skills (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing English (Required proficiency)
  • Must demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills (Required proficiency)
  • Microsoft Office, most notably Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint (Required proficiency)
  • Microsoft Teams (Required proficiency)
  • Must be able to troubleshoot AV/Computer presentation issues (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Education or similar field of study Preferred
  • At least two (2) years Experience educating, mentoring, or coaching staff in a clinical or operational setting. Preferred
