About The Position

The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing services across all TGCW Behavioral Health programs in Westchester, including Behavioral Health Urgent Care, Outpatient Clinic, PROS, ACT, and OASAS-certified programs. This role supports individuals across the lifespan with mental health and substance use needs by delivering nursing assessment, triage, medication administration, care coordination, and health education in collaboration with an interdisciplinary treatment team. The RN serves as a clinical resource to staff, supports regulatory compliance, and ensures continuity of care from initial access through ongoing treatment. This role offers qualified professionals hands-on experience, training, and clinical supervision in a variety of evidence-based practices.

Requirements

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license
  • Minimum of one (1) year nursing experience
  • Behavioral health, substance use, crisis intervention, or community-based care experience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Commitment to customer service excellence and a warm and engaging presence
  • Computer skills and experience working with electronic medical records
  • Takes initiative and identities areas for improvement
  • Ability to manage multiple relationships with medical, clinical and support staff as well as leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Psychiatric and Substance use disorder experience is a plus
  • Bilingual English and Spanish speaking is a plus
  • New graduate RNs may be considered for strong candidates, with structured orientation, training, and supervision provided.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing assessments and triage based on client acuity across BH Urgent Care, Clinic, PROS, ACT, and OASAS programs.
  • Conduct health histories and nursing evaluations through client and collateral interviews.
  • Provide general nursing care in accordance with NYS nursing standards and agency policies.
  • Monitor, observe, document, and report client condition and response to treatment.
  • Support psychiatric providers with implementing toxicology drug screens and coordinating lab work when needed.
  • Identify medical and psychiatric risk factors and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per physician orders and nursing standards.
  • Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and adherence.
  • Provide medication education to clients and families.
  • Support medication coordination across programs and care transitions.
  • Ensure compliance with OASAS, OMH, and agency medication administration requirements.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, medical providers, therapists, care managers, and direct care staff to support treatment planning.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and discharge planning.
  • Coordinate follow-up care, referrals, and outreach after urgent care or crisis episodes.
  • Serve as a nursing resource to program staff regarding medical and psychiatric concerns.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for clients and staff.
  • Support infection control practices and ensure availability of PPE and nursing supplies.
  • Maintain examination and medication areas in a clean, organized, and compliant manner.
  • Assist providers during examinations and treatments as needed.
  • Support documentation standards in electronic medical records.
  • Adhere to OMH, OASAS, DOH, and agency regulatory requirements.
  • Educate clients and families on health conditions, medications, wellness, and self-care.
  • Act as a client advocate to support access to appropriate services.
  • Promote recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.
  • Provide nursing interventions for ACT program, including administration of long acting injectable medications in patients’ homes or other community-based settings when needed.
