About The Position

Shift: Night Shift (7pm-7am), Every Third Weekend. The Johns Hopkins Hospital-Bloomberg 12 has a 15 bed acute care pediatric inpatient psychiatry unit and a 12 slot psychiatric Day Hospital for voluntary patients aged 5-17. Most commonly seen diagnoses include mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar and adjustment disorders. In addition to mental illness, patients may also have medical co-morbidities: asthma, diabetes, sickle cell, cancer, etc. Our Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for proficiency in therapeutic interactions with mental/behavioral health patients both individually and in group settings. Creating and running therapeutic group-based activities for patients. Groups include coping skill education/in-vivo practice and recreation, managing interactions between patients in groups and in the milieu, and monitoring, managing, and documenting individual patient behavior. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an allied health discipline including Psychology, Social Work, Education, Child Life, Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, childhood development or in an allied mental health program.
  • Ideal candidates have experience in working with the pediatric population and have at least 6 months of experience in a mental health care setting
  • BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted
