SCHEDULE 40 hours per week. Two 12 (1845-0715) and two 8 (2245-0715) hour shifts per week. Rotation into weekends and holidays. The Behavioral Health Technician works under the supervision of the professional licensed nurse, performing supportive clinical, as well as clerical functions within the Behavioral Health Inpatient / Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED required.
  • CPR certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services – Valid State Driver’s License based on home address of record

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS in human services field, or current student in BA/BS/Nursing School preferred.
  • 2 years previous experience in mental health or medical setting preferred.
  • Nurse or medical aide experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the admission process and documents pertinent information. This includes but is not limited to search of persons / belongings, reviewing of unit rules, room assignment, completion of consent forms, per unit routine.
  • Performs clinical procedures such as: Accurately obtains and records patient vital signs and I & O; Performs glucometry, phlebotomy and EKGs (Inpatient Services); Collection of specimens for screening and diagnostic tests.
  • Supports the patient performing ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) – personal hygiene, nutrition, elimination.
  • Performs or supports the patient while performing necessary physical care to ensure Activities of Daily Living are maintained – personal hygiene, nutrition, elimination, ambulation or physical mobility.
  • Monitors the therapeutic environment by performing safety checks and monitors patient status by performing patient observations per unit policy. Ensures client safety and compliance to unit guidelines.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Addresses hazards to safety in the physical environment. Accesses emergency services when needed.
  • Follows treatment plan as directed by licensed personnel.
  • Interacts with persons served to support therapeutic interventions and provide emotional support to promote recovery. Communicates changes in patient/client condition or unit milieu concerns with patient care team.
  • Facilitates patient recreational and therapeutic activities under the direction of the professional licensed staff.
  • Demonstrates skill as a member of the Control Team, in responding to agitation/violent behavior of individuals requiring verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint or seclusion (Inpatient).
  • Completes part of the planned discharge process at the direction of the nursing staff. This includes but is not limited to monitoring of packing, return of personal belongings, completion of appropriate discharge forms.
  • Demonstrates proper chain of command for work related issues.
  • Maintains clinical records of all patient contact according to policy and other regulatory guidelines. Organizes work time to respond to established priorities. Uses time effectively and productively during periods of low department activity.
  • Completes Departmental Orientation Checklist within 90 days of employment and completes all identified competencies for job description on an annual basis.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • SUD – Provides transportation for persons served per facility regulations, abiding by all vehicle traffic and safety laws. Demonstrates appropriate telephone skills. Other related duties as assigned.
