About The Position

The behavior specialist provides continuous support to the overall educational environment by utilizing positive interactions with students to address student behaviors. To provide ongoing behavior intervention strategies for all students in all aspects of the educational environment but primarily in the In School Suspension (ISS) Program and including but not limited to: student arrival, dismissal, hallways, cafeteria, playground and perhaps extracurricular activities including field trips. The Behavioral Specialist will work directly with administrators to provide outlets and avenues for students to communicate with staff in the building, serving as a liaison helping to empower students, develop leadership skills and build healthy relationships built on trust. The Behavior Specialist will input data from referral forms on our NASIS system while supervising students in the ISS room and other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Requirements

  • Requires an AA degree
  • Requires 2 years of counseling or crisis intervention experience with children or in a relevant field.
  • Experience with drug and alcohol counseling helpful
  • Requires a valid Driver's license with no serious violations.
  • Requires proof of degree/transcripts and THREE written letters of reference to be submitted along with application.
  • Requires excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative and in general good health.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people.
  • Requires extensive knowledge and involvement with the school and community and with adults in general and parents in particular.
  • Able to use excellent phone etiquette with parents/guardians.
  • Must demonstrate effective organizational skills, able to be flexible if needed.
  • Requires a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community, including difficult and emotional situations.
  • Requires a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Requires skill with a computer and be able to input data.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful and emergency situations.
