About The Position

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Big Wheel Operator II position in the Brenham Tube Mill Operations. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will operate and maintain the “Big Wheel” Electronic Resistance Welding system for welding longitudinal seams on round tapered tubes. The incumbent of this position is responsible for performing all setup and adjustments to assure that the machine is producing the desired results in terms of quality and quantity. Shift: 3rd shift (Nights) Monday-Friday 11PM-7AM Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG10): $26.72 + $1.00 for shift differential Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write clearly.
  • Ability to perform and understand basic math.
  • Able to read O.D. tape and tape measure.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience in the Tube Mill operations.
  • Must have successfully completed at least two following Tube Line Level 2 – BBS/Former/Shear

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • High School or GED diploma
  • Experience operating overhead crane
  • Experience working with Lean manufacturing methodology
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
  • Certified to GMAW

Responsibilities

  • Performs machine setups to prepare the machine for each diameter and thickness of tube to be welded.
  • Makes adjustments to settings of speed, volts, amps, and hydraulic pressures to obtain desired results.
  • Inspects tubes during and after welding to ensure that quality is acceptable.
  • Based on the appearance of the weld, decides while it is being welded whether setting adjustments are required and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Recognizes when it is necessary to replace consumable parts.
  • Replaces consumable parts as needed.
  • Performs daily maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components of the machine.
  • Reports immediately any matters requiring maintenance attention; initiate Maintenance Work Request.
  • Assists maintenance personnel on any repairs required.
  • Communicates with the Former Operator to assure that tubes to be welded meet desired quality standards.
  • Maintains a specified buffer of shafts in process to supply the burnisher during normal shutdowns of the Former and/or Welder for setup or for replacement of consumables.
  • Maintains safe work habits, and takes immediate action to correct any unsafe condition that might occur.
  • Takes appropriate action to assure that his workplace is neat and clean.
  • Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job.
  • Make management aware of any training needs you have.
  • Consult your management immediately if you are being asked to perform work for which you are not trained and/or are not comfortable doing because of potential safety or risk implications.
  • Other duties as assigned
