JOB SUMMARY: The Bilingual Medical Assistant (MA) plays a key role in delivering high-quality medical care in a patient-centered medical home environment, focusing on disease prevention. As the first point of contact between patients and providers, the MA helps streamline the provider's time by taking vital signs, gathering information about the patient's reason for the visit (chief complaint), and preparing the exam rooms. Additionally, the MA is expected to actively contribute to quality improvement initiatives and support the clinical team, always prioritizing the individual needs of patients. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Medical Assistant Duties: Ensure patients are roomed promptly and accurately, including taking and recording vital signs. Assist providers with exams and procedures, including pap smears, and serve as a chaperone during sensitive procedures when needed. Perform in-house A1C and retinal scans as required for patient care. Collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. Administer vaccines and immunizations in accordance with medical guidelines. Review and update patient medical histories, including current medications, before each visit. Use and interpret medical terminology effectively for communication and documentation. Set up patient exam rooms with necessary instruments and paperwork before each appointment. Ensure patient confidentiality and protect HIPAA regulations. Maintain a safe, secure, and compliant work environment by adhering to standards and regulations. Stay up to date with medical knowledge through educational opportunities and professional publications. Participate in staff and committee meetings, fostering collaboration and communication with team members. Maintain respectful, courteous, and professional interactions with staff, volunteers, and patients. Manage time effectively, prioritizing patient care and utilizing resources efficiently. Travel between clinic sites as needed. Perform additional tasks assigned. Administrative Duties: Handle incoming phone calls in the back office. Manage patient prescription refills and address any related issues. Provide translation assistance when necessary. Serve as the primary contact for the call center department.
