About The Position

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher; or Minimum of forty eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university; High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) and passed the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test; and Be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to work with small groups of students
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (verbal, written, and reading)
  • Ability to maintain confidentially.
  • Ability to perform multiple duties simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and Windows.
  • Self-directed with high organizational skills.
  • 1 year experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Student Management Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Other Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
