About The Position

The Bioengineering Analyst provides front-line technical and operational support for the hospital & surgery center clinical areas, ambulatory clinics and practices device ecosystem, ensuring medical equipment used in point-of-care workflows is safe, functional, compliant, and properly documented. Reporting into a leader within Biomedical and Clinical Engineering, this role combines elements of biomedical equipment support, device deployment, asset tracking, preventive maintenance, regulatory documentation, vendor coordination, and first-line troubleshooting. The analyst will support both hospital and outpatient ambulatory offices and clinics. The Analyst also supports functions typically outlined in biomedical service agreements, such as PMs, electrical safety testing, equipment repairs, test equipment use, service documentation, compliance support, and coordination with OEMs or external service vendors, ensuring clinics meet all internal, manufacturer, and regulatory standards.

  • Medical device setup, staging, preventive maintenance (PM), or clinical equipment support
  • Desktop support or technical troubleshooting, including exposure to patch deployment, cybersecurity, or device hardening
  • Asset management or configuration management for technical equipment in operational environments
  • Basic understanding of electronic, mechanical, and clinical device operating principles
  • Familiarity with medical device functionality, safety standards, and compliance requirements
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of medical device connectivity (networked devices, HL7, EMR interfaces).
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (NFPA 99, AAMI, Joint Commission).
  • Experience working with or coordinating vendor biomedical service contracts.
  • LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) – AAMI. Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) – ACCE. OEM-specific device certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Device Deployment & Workflow Support Receive, inspect, prepare, and stage medical equipment (e.g., patient monitors, infusion pumps, point-of-care devices) for deployment in alignment with clinical workflows. Install, configure, calibrate, and validate devices in patient care areas to ensure safety, readiness, and compliance with clinical engineering standards. Support onboarding and decommissioning of equipment, including cleaning, tagging, inventory updates, data wiping, documentation, and coordination with OEM or vendor service providers.
  • Preventive Maintenance, Testing & Regulatory Compliance Perform or assist with preventive maintenance (PM) and electrical safety testing (EST) per manufacturer recommendations, NFPA 99, AAMI guidelines, and institutional schedules. Utilize calibrated test equipment and document PMs and ESTs in accordance with internal, regulatory, and vendor standards. Ensure annual calibration and readiness of internal test equipment and maintain compliance documentation for Joint Commission, FDA, and state regulatory bodies.
  • Troubleshooting, Repair Coordination & Technical Support Respond to device failure alerts, diagnose first-line issues, and coordinate repairs through OEMs or approved vendor partners. Serve as a liaison between nursing, clinical staff, IT/integration teams, and vendor service representatives. Restore device functionality quickly and escalate complex cases following established SLAs for response times and documentation accuracy.
  • Asset & Lifecycle Management Track device inventory, maintenance history, downtime, deployment location, utilization, and equipment status using the clinical engineering asset management system. Update asset records following PMs, repairs, installations, and device movement. Support lifecycle planning by identifying aging assets, repeat failures, or workflow inefficiencies.
  • Documentation, Reporting & Compliance Create service reports, inspection documentation, repair descriptions, root-cause analyses, and compliance logs consistent with vendor-level standards. Maintain and store manuals, service guides, and equipment documentation for all supported devices. Ensure service documentation meets or exceeds regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Vendor & OEM Coordination Coordinate with external biomedical service vendors, OEMs, and third parties for equipment under service contracts. Provide analysis of future service agreements and determine feasibility of in-house maintenance versus OEM service. Monitor vendor performance, SLA adherence, and timely completion of PMs and repairs.
  • Operational Reliability & Coverage Escalate urgent service needs and ensure emergency repairs receive timely response. Support on-call rotation, after-hours service needs, or weekend coverage as required. Assist with continuity of operations during staffing gaps or technician absences.
  • Cybersecurity & Safety Track and apply security patches, firmware updates, and vulnerability mitigations for network-connected medical equipment. Ensure compliance with hospital safety, infection control, and HIPAA/security policies.
  • MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS: Assist with emergency repairs during off-hours or on-call rotations. Participate in equipment evaluation and selection committees. Support cybersecurity patching and firmware updates for networked devices. Provide training to clinical staff on proper device use and care.
