Bioinformatics Intern

ElevateBioWaltham, MA

About The Position

ElevateBio is looking for a motivated intern to support the Bioinformatics team housed in the Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Core at ElevateBio Basecamp. Here’s What You’ll Do: As part of developing a larger cross-functional workflow, the intern will focus on processing and analyzing single cell RNA sequencing experiments (scRNA-seq) from collaborative experiments with our Analytical Development and Process Development teams. From a bioinformatics lens, the intern will be included in experimental design discussions, wet lab preparation for sequencing, and manage the subsequent bioinformatics processing pipelines on the cloud (S3, EC2, AWS Batch, help edit reference for gene editing target coverage). The intern will also perform relevant downstream analysis (e.g., PCA, Pearson Correlation, differential expression, marker expression and cell typing with assistance as needed) and present outcomes. This project will help provide transcriptional information to be paired with other orthogonal and characterization assays such as flow cytometry and potency to provide a richer understanding of our manufactured cell therapy products. Other routine tasks will include cloud-based data transfer, presenting to the NGS Core Team/larger groups, and supporting other bioinformatics projects as needed (e.g., run other processing pipelines).

Requirements

  • Graduate or undergraduate student working towards a degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, genomics or similar
  • Experience using or working knowledge of common bioinformatic tools such as tools involved in quality control, alignment, and quantification or variant calling of NGS data
  • Experience with at least one programming language (R or Python)
  • Experience with, working knowledge of, or eagerness to work with cloud computing (AWS is a plus)
  • Comfortable with fast pace, team-oriented environment

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on sequencing experimental design with the NGS Core wet lab and observe sample preparation
  • Review sequence performance
  • Run cloud-based processing pipelines
  • Perform bioinformatics analyses of sequenced data using standard tools ( BaseSpace, R/Python, AWS S3 and EC2, Seurat)
  • Prepare visualizations to convey complex findings (Python/R)
  • Assist in routine tasks such as data transfers, run other processing pipelines
  • Present findings at team or department meetings including to Analytical Development and Process Development Teams
