Axle is seeking a Biological Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the Clinical Center (CC) located in Bethesda, MD. The purpose of this position is to provide research support for new and ongoing projects in the lab that include development and characterization of novel fungispecific PET imaging tracers.

Requirements

  • Fungal microbiological techniques
  • Fluorescence and confocal microscopy
  • Performing stereotaxic surgeries in small animals

Responsibilities

  • Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data - 1
  • Monitor operational procedures in technical environments to ensure conformance to standards - 2
  • Record research or operational data. - 3
  • Analyze laboratory findings - 4
  • Operate laboratory equipment to analyze samples - 5
  • Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life.
  • In vitro characterization of novel radioligands to be used as fungal specific PET tracers.
  • Development and standardization of mouse models of fungal infection.
  • Validation of PET imaging data with a variety of assays.
  • Work independently on assigned research projects.
  • Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures.
  • Perform surgical procedures in mice to develop fungal infections.
  • Plan and conduct long-term imaging experiments to include animal monitoring, PET/CT/MRI imaging and tissue collection and processing.
  • Perform in vitro assays to characterize potential PET ligands.
  • Validate PET imaging results with different microscopic techniques.
  • Collect, record, analyze and present experimental data Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Meet with lab members to present updates - Weekly
  • Perform experiments, collect and analyze data - Daily
  • Train new personnel in different experimental approaches - Ad-Hoc
