About The Position

Provides technical expertise for environmental reviews involving the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The Biologist ensures that proposed activities on tribal lands do not jeopardize federally listed species or adversely modify critical habitats.

Requirements

  • Expertise in the Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), and Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA).
  • Knowledge of Secretarial Orders regarding Tribal Rights and Federal-Tribal Trust Responsibilities.
  • Experience in fisheries/wildlife surveys and aquatic/terrestrial invasive species

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Section 7(a)(1) conservation programs and Section 7(a)(2) consultation processes.
  • Support Federal officials in co-developing biological opinions, biological assessments, and other ESA-related documentation.
  • Ensure NEPA documents provide adequate programs for the conservation of endangered species and their ecosystems.
  • Provide literature reviews and technical data to support USFWS consultation for NEPA actions.
  • Must have considerable experience in Government-to-Government consultations and coordinating with Tribal offices.
  • Ability to work within compressed timelines (e.g., reviewing some NEPA documents within 14–28 days)
