We are currently searching for a Biologist to provide support services to contribute toward satisfying the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) through support, analysis and basic research within the Laboratory of Systems Genetics (LSG). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD. Create loss-of-function and/or defined genomic modifications in Drosophila using CRISPR, including target site selection, gRNA plasmid generation, donor template design and construction as well as generation and confirmation of engineered lines. Perform sequencing analysis of genomic DNA samples obtained from Drosophila using the Sanger sequencing method. Prepare DNA and RNA samples for next-generation sequencing. Conduct confirmatory experiments using RT-qPCR. Prepare samples needed by laboratory team members for a variety of research assays while providing support and troubleshooting as needed. Maintain Drosophila cultures for experimental purposes. Collect and maintain accurate experimental records; document all experiments in LabArchives. Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions. Participate in instruction of summer students and research fellows in basic biochemical and molecular techniques. Contribute to the writing and preparation of scientific papers for publication in recognized journals.
