About The Position

The Congdon School of Health Sciences and the Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University invite applicants for a full-time staff position as a Biomechanics Laboratory Assistant. This staff member will be responsible for assisting faculty in the Human Biomechanics and Physiology Laboratory (HBAPL) and the Virtual Reality and Clinical Gait Analysis Laboratory (VRCGAL) in areas of research, education, and outreach. As such, this individual should be highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, and be able to manage multiple tasks with ease. In this position, candidates will be expected to demonstrate sound judgment, professional etiquette, and exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. In addition to having a "can-do" attitude and pleasant demeanor, candidates must have excellent communication skills that will allow them to interact with various groups of people. The Congdon School of Health Sciences and Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University offers all the resources of a research-intensive institution with the quality of life of a small, private institution. We offer two outstanding, state-of-the-art movement analysis laboratory spaces (18,000 sq ft) in the HBAPL and the VRCGAL. The HBAPL includes 48, 3D motion capture cameras strategically placed to include coverage of hardwood court, running and turf functional areas, 14 tri-axial force platforms, a high-speed instrumented force treadmill, integrated wireless EMG, and pressure distribution systems. The HBAPL also contains a fully automated Golf Simulator, a climate-controlled Environmental Chamber and a fully equipped wet lab for cell culture, tissue and serum assays. The VRCGAL has a virtual reality treadmill, an overhead body support device, exoskeleton, and a force sensing mat. In addition, the Department of Physical Therapy has state-of-the-art imaging facilities including a CurveBeam LineUP WB Extremity CT imaging system, a Hologic DXA scanner, and several Esaote MyLabAlpha musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound scanners.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree with expertise in exercise science, kinesiology, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, or related field

  • Experience as a teaching or laboratory assistant (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the Department, School, and University.
  • Models the core values highlighted in the Congdon School of Health Science and Department of Physical Therapy “Values Statements”.
  • Assists with planning, organizing and leading laboratory educational activities.
  • Participates in data collection and processing using instrumentation within the HBAPL and VRCGAL.
  • Assists Department of Physical Therapy personnel in technical procedures.
  • Evaluates current research, improves techniques, and adapts new methods to existing procedures.
  • Coordinates research studies conducted within the HBAPL and VRCGAL, including participant recruitment, scheduling, and communication with faculty investigators.
  • Supports collaborative research initiatives with external universities and industry partners.
  • Aids in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and training of faculty.
  • Other duties as assigned.
