About The Position

SUMMARY Provide Biomedical Engineering skills and conduct software/hardware engineering research support as related to the Combat Casualty Care mission. Assist with ongoing research that addresses Medical Simulation and Information Sciences Research Program (MSISRP) and the Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) MSISRP technology gaps for the Engineering, Technology, and Automation Combat Research Team (CRT6) to include the Semi-Automated Casualty Care System (SACM), Augmented Reality (AR) Technology for PFC, Smart Tourniquet and Validation of Automated Vascular Access Devices projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Enrich practices, techniques, and knowledge in the medical, physiological, and biological sciences. Enhance and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of living (i.e., human and animal) systems. Create and improve designs, instrumentation, materials, diagnostic and therapeutic devices, artificial organs, medical systems, and other devices (e.g., systems, equipment, application programs, and components) needed in the study and practice of medicine with living systems. Assist with the development of standardized testing platforms to provide objective, data-based conclusions for answering research hypotheses. Develop models using simulators/cadavers/large animals to test the efficacy of developing devices. Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility/design/operation/performance of equipment, components, and systems. Develop expertise in various medical instrumentation required for ongoing research products, such as ultrasonic devices and imagers. Contribute to at least two publishable research findings in the form of abstracts/papers/presentations/posters each year. Perform data acquisition for clinical applications using computer programming languages (Python primarily). Perform image processing and analysis for use with automated image recognition systems. Develop control systems and algorithms for medical applications and devices Conduct statistical analysis with various application and programming languages. Assist with writing patent documentation and submission to intellectual property protection organizations. Assist with developing documentation for software and medical devices. Read and review scientific journal articles related to advancements in medical and technical fields in ongoing project and research areas. Gain knowledge of the system requirements for use with hardware/software developed in CRT6. Assist with software development IAW applicable Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations related to medical devices. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with specialization in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in biomedical engineering or clinical environment including development of experimental devices and/or systems.
  • Development experience using tools such as MATLAB, CAD, SolidWorks, FEA simulations, etc.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
