About The Position

As the Blind Services Assistant Director to the Blind Services Division Director, this position supervises the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors and the Blind Services Rehabilitation Counselor and Program Manager. This position supports the director with workforce development and position management. As well as succession planning for staff's training needs and professional development. This position supports the director with performance measures and improvements of the DBVI state plan. This position operates as the acting director when the director is absent and facilitates DBVI announcements as well as other communication from the state of Vermont. The assistant director will maintain a VR caseload that provides services to consumers who are blind or visually impaired. This position will have a hybrid work schedule with office hours located at the DAIL offices in either Springfield, Burlington, Rutland, Montpelier or Waterbury, depending on the location of the candidate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a human services field
  • Three (3) years of experience in a program which provides direct services to people with disabilities, including or supplemented by at least two (2) years with responsibility for administration of a major program.
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
