Position Summary A Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master’s-level professional who assesses, designs, and oversees individualized behavior intervention programs to improve socially significant behaviors, often for individuals with autism or developmental disabilities. BCBAs conduct assessments, analyze behavioral data, and develop evidence-based treatment plans while supervising behavior technicians and training caregivers to ensure consistent implementation. They collaborate with families, educators, and healthcare providers, monitor client progress, and adjust interventions as needed, all while adhering to ethical standards set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

Requirements

  • You must have at least a master’s degree in a relevant field, such as: Behavior Analysis Psychology Education Special Education
  • Your degree must include approved coursework in behavior analysis. This can be done through: A BACB-approved course sequence Or a verified program covering topics like: Ethics Measurement & data analysis Behavior assessment Intervention strategies
  • You must complete supervised practical experience: Typically 1,500–2,000 hours Under a qualified BCBA supervisor In real-world settings (schools, clinics, etc.)
  • After completing education and fieldwork, you must pass the certification exam administered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
  • Adhere to BACB ethics standards
  • Ongoing continuing education after certification

Responsibilities

  • Conduct behavioral assessments (e.g., functional behavior assessments)
  • Identify problem behaviors and skill deficits
  • Analyze data to determine causes of behaviors
  • Develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
  • Set measurable goals for clients
  • Design skill-building programs (communication, social, adaptive skills)
  • Supervise behavior technicians (RBTs)
  • Train staff and caregivers on intervention strategies
  • Ensure programs are implemented correctly
  • Monitor client progress using data
  • Adjust interventions based on outcomes
  • Maintain detailed documentation and reports
  • Work with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers
  • Provide parent training and support
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Follow guidelines set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Stay up to date with research and continuing education
