About The Position

HOT 97 (WQHT-FM), New York’s leading Hip Hop station is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Board Operator to join our on-air team. The Board Operator is responsible for running the control board during live and pre-recorded shows, ensuring smooth technical execution, and supporting talent and producers during broadcasts across both brands.

This role requires strong technical skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced live environment, and a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

Requirements

• Prior experience operating a control board in a radio station preferred
• Strong understanding of broadcast equipment and audio levels
• Ability to stay calm and focused during live broadcasts
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with radio automation systems (Zetta, VoxPro, etc.) is a plus

Responsibilities

• Operate the audio control board for live and recorded programming
• Ensure music logs, commercials, and imaging are played back according to the daily log
• Ensure proper levels, transitions, and sound quality on-air
• Coordinate with producers, hosts, and engineering to maintain broadcast flow
• Manage phone systems for live call-ins and remote guests
• Record and edit audio as needed
• Monitor FCC compliance and ensure all station policies are followed
• Troubleshoot minor technical issues during broadcasts
• Assist with studio setup for guests and special programming
