About The Position

This position is responsible for the body repairs for all RTD buses, cars, trucks, vans and other equipment. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Requirements

  • 2 year’s work experience in a mechanical shop, or a degree from a recognized body repair school
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Not more than five (5) points assessed against motor vehicle record (MVR) in the past two (2) years and 10 points in seven (7) years. Also no DUI, DWI or reckless driving in the past five (5) years.
  • Ability to pass RTD required physical ability assessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to, the ability to bend, stoop, reach, push/pull and lift up to 76 pounds in a proper safe manner.
  • Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and be issued a Medical Examiner Certificate that is valid for at least one year, and a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License Permit with an air brake and passenger endorsement (Class B-P)
  • Ability to pass RTD basic body technician test and interview
  • Ability to pass RTD on-the-job Body Shop Training
  • Ability to pass RTD on-the-job Driver Training, and maintain a CDL for remainder of employment
  • Ability to pass RTD on–the-job Forklift Training (this will happen within 2 years of employment)
  • Ability to pass a RTD required physical ability assessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to, the ability to bend, stoop, reach, push/pull and lift up to 76 pounds in a proper safe manner.
  • Ability to work in a standard body or maintenance shop environment, which can include, but is not limited to, working with dust, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, and chemicals for an extended length of time; as well as various outdoor weather conditions as required
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, awkward physical positions, and at various heights
  • Possess 80% of the approved Body Shop tool list at the time of hire and obtain 100% at the end of probation/qualifying time
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which can include working various days, hours, and shifts
  • An equivalent combination of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics consistent with required qualifications as determined in the job analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs or rebuilds bus or automotive bodies, including major repairs, masking, painting, etc.
  • Welds steel and aluminum.
  • Fabricate fiberglass, aluminum, steel plastic or other body parts as needed.
  • Cut and fit all body glass.
  • Safe operation and proper care of shop tools and equipment.
  • Accurate completion of repair orders, core and warranty tags, parts slips and other records as required.
  • All other job-related duties as assigned.
