About The Position

The Boiler Heat Exchanger Journeyman is a skilled professional responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of boiler systems and heat exchangers. This role requires a deep understanding of boiler operations, welding, and system troubleshooting, ensuring high-quality work that adheres to safety and industry standards.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in boiler and heat exchanger installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Journeyman certification or equivalent experience is required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting boiler and heat exchanger systems.
  • Skilled in welding, cutting, and using other fabrication tools.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance.
  • Work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions (heat, noise, etc.).
  • Extended standing, bending, and kneeling as job tasks demand.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in welding (e.g., ASME, AWS) are strongly preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, align, and assemble boiler systems, heat exchangers, and auxiliary components.
  • Perform maintenance tasks, including tube cleaning, gasket replacements, and mechanical repairs.
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing, inspections, and pressure testing of boiler and heat exchanger systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, operational, and structural issues in boiler and heat exchanger systems.
  • Repair or replace defective components, including valves, tubes, and seals.
  • Ensure systems are operating efficiently and within manufacturer and safety specifications.
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks required for repairs and installations, such as tube replacement or structural modifications.
  • Work with various materials, including carbon steel and stainless steel.
  • Ensure welds meet industry standards and pass required inspections.
  • Follow OSHA, company, and industry safety guidelines and standards.
  • Ensure work areas are safe, organized, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in safety meetings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics to execute tasks effectively.
  • Document completed work, including repairs, inspections, and material usage.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment performance and maintenance schedules.
  • Work closely with supervisors, project managers, and other team members to complete projects efficiently.
  • Mentor apprentices and less experienced team members to build skills and knowledge.
