About The Position

This position is accountable for directing consulting firms in the analysis and evaluation of structural designs and directing consulting firms in the development and preparation of bridge and structural plans. This position also oversees the timely review and approval of construction submittals and the investigations and solutions to construction problems associated with change of conditions, contract errors, or plan errors.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer and Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Eight years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Three years supervising staff and managing engineering functions.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional statewide travel with overnight stays.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the preparation of structural design, analysis, and contract plans for structures built by the department.
  • Oversees the investigations and evaluates solutions to construction problems.
  • Ensures that all bridge structures designed are compatible with correct structural theory and applicable standards, specifications, and policies.
  • Organizes, coordinates, and monitors the efforts of the Bridge Design and Review Unit to assure the efficient and timely completion of all projects.
  • Provides analysis and decisions on corrective action on construction problems involving bridges and structures.
  • Motivates, evaluates, and develops subordinates to maintain a high level of employee morale and work performance and ensures compliance with department safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
