About The Position

The Montana State Auditor, Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI), has an exciting opportunity for a Budget Analyst 3 – Lead Worker in the Central Services Division. CSI is a criminal justice agency. This position works in the Central Management Division with broad policy guidance and direction established by the Deputy State Auditor. This position will report to the Deputy State Auditor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other related field with a concentration in accounting from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional governmental accounting, budgeting.
  • Experience in statewide Accounting, Budgeting, and Human Resource Systems (SABHRS), Internet Budget and Reporting System (IBARS).

Nice To Haves

  • At least a year of supervisory experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Budget: Work with financial management, accounting processes, auditing, and budgeting.
  • Allocation: Serve as a financial resource and provide guidance and technical assistance to staff as necessary.
  • Monitor: Monitor the office’s financial affairs, review, and investigate large, unusual, and high-risk transactions.
  • Research: Analyze and research issues and recommend and implement solutions.
  • Advisory: Advise the Commissioner, Deputy State Auditor, the executive team, bureau chiefs, and human resources on fiscal policy, direction, and interpretation.
  • Financial data: Prepare financial schedules and various reports.
  • Detailed fiscal schedules: Prepare schedules and provide projections to the Commissioner and executive team.
  • Auditing: Recommend and draft audit responses, develop and present testimony before legislative committees, and present information and material to defend the CSI budget.
  • Liaison: Serve as the chief agency liaison to the Legislative Auditor’s Office.
  • Funding: Make major reallocation decisions and request additional funds or spending authority.
