About The Position

Under general supervision from the Executive Director of Energy and Utilities, the Building Control System Manager is responsible for managing building automation systems (BAS) operations and associated system performance across campus facilities. This position supervises BAS technicians and provides operational oversight of BAS-enabled building systems, chilled water and central cooling infrastructure, and vendor-supported services. The role is accountable for staff performance, service delivery, safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. The Building Control System Manager works closely with the Building Controls System Analyst, Campus Energy Manager, Facilities Operations managers and supervisors, and external contractors to resolve HVAC and system-level issues, optimize system performance, support energy efficiency initiatives, and advance University sustainability goals. This position is considered essential staff and may be required to report during curtailment or emergency events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with five years of experience in building automation systems, Associate’s degree in a related field with seven years of experience in building automation systems, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with building automation systems used for HVAC control and building systems integration.
  • Experience supporting, operating, or managing BAS platforms in an institutional, commercial, or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC systems, and integrated building systems.
  • Ability to interpret system data, trends, and alarms to support troubleshooting, optimization, and performance improvement.
  • Working knowledge of chilled water systems, central cooling plants, and related HVAC infrastructure.
  • Ability to coordinate work across organizational boundaries, including collaboration with operations staff, engineers, energy managers, and external vendors.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple initiatives, and respond effectively to operational issues and emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory or lead experience in a technical, facilities, or building systems environment.
  • Experience managing or coordinating contractors and vendors supporting building automation systems or HVAC equipment.
  • Experience supporting chilled water plants, cooling towers, or central cooling infrastructure.
  • Experience working in a higher education, healthcare, research, or other large institutional environment.
  • Experience supporting energy management, sustainability initiatives, or BAS-enabled optimization programs.
  • Familiarity with enterprise CMMS, analytics, and performance reporting tools.
