About The Position

Rowan Williams Davies & Irwin Inc. (RWDI) is an engineering consulting firm specializing in the science of buildings and structures. We lead integrated design incorporating building enclosures, sustainability, environmental engineering, wind engineering, microclimate, ventilation, noise, acoustics and vibration. We are a firm of 750+ enthusiastic people in nine countries, bringing our wide range of experience and skills together to develop a better, holistic design for our clients. RWDI’s Portland office is currently accepting applications for a Co-op position with our Building Enclosure team in Spring/Summer 2026.

Requirements

  • 3rd or 4th year students pursuing a degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Science or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and analysis
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to building performance analysis tools (e.g., THERM, WUFI, or similar) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Building Enclosure Analysis – Assist in evaluating the performance of building enclosures, including roofing, facades, windows, and waterproofing systems.
  • Field Observations & Testing – Support site visits to assess construction quality, observe water infiltration testing, and document findings.
  • Technical Report Writing – Prepare reports summarizing findings from observation visits, lab testing, and material assessments.
  • Material Research & Selection – Help research building materials, coatings, and sealants to improve durability and energy efficiency.
  • Building Codes & Standards Compliance – Help ensure projects meet industry codes such as ASTM, AAMA, and ASHRAE standards.
  • Digital Modeling & Simulations – Use software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, THERM, WUFI) to model building enclosure performance.
