About The Position

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, HVAC systems, and facilities, utilities machines and equipment by performing the following duties.  Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • Two-year certificate in the mechanical or electrical field from a college or technical school; or a minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Ability to work with mathematical mechanical and/or electrical concepts.
  • Ability to apply such concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors,maintains, and performs standard repairs to building electrical, facilities and systems, such as tubes, fixtures, switches, photocells, and outlets;assistsother technicians.
  • Monitors performance of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems for the facility; performs standard repair/replacement of components, asappropriate, and maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units and adjustment of system controls.
  • Monitors and performs maintenance of plumbing systems,to includestandard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, and/or performing modifications to plumbing and water supply systems.
  • Ensuresproper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practice.
  • Documentsfacilitiesmaintenance requirementsmaintainsappropriate recordsof work performed.
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds tolocatecauses of trouble.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examinesformand texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspectsused parts todeterminechanges in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Performs preventive maintenancefacilitiesequipment and utilities.
  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up andoperatesgrinder, powertoolsand other shop tools to make and repair parts.
  • Initiatespurchaseorderfor parts and supplies.
  • Connects low voltage power supply wires to machines and equipment andconnectscables and wires between machines and equipment.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as low voltagemotors, andlighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken lighting fixtures.
  • Replacesblown fuses, resetbreakersand overload relays for lighting and equipment.
  • Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction.
  • Operates cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces.
  • Replacesdefective parts with newpartor repairs or reproducespartfrom various kinds of metal stock.
  • Operates forklifts, scissorliftsand other equipment necessary to perform tasks.
  • Fills up logs for inspection and preventive maintenance ofequipment’sand utilities.
  • Fills up work order upon completion of job/task.
  • Performs plumbing and piping repairs.
  • Performs other duties as required and miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Reports to Manager or Supervisor status of pending and ongoing jobs.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
