The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As the Bus Driver, you are responsible for the transportation of Zoo School students to/from the school to the Zoo in a safe and efficient manner. You must also express an awesome guest service attitude at all times. As a Bus Driver, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:

Requirements

  • GED/High school diploma required.
  • CDL license required (A, B, or C class) with “P” endorsement (passenger).
  • Must be able to pass background check screened under the Texas Department of Family Protective Services.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience driving a bus.
  • No at-fault traffic accidents in the last five (5) years.
  • Ability to carry out assigned route on time.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to load/unload passengers on the bus in a friendly manner, using a name-to-face checklist
  • Check seatbelts and ensure children are being transported safely
  • Transport children and staff by following all traffic and safety laws, as well as best practice
  • Unload children from the bus in a friendly manner, using a name-to-face checklist
  • Responsible for morning crosswalk duty.
  • Maintain all required supplies on bus, as well as all documentation
  • Perform daily inspections on the buses to ensure they are washed, clean and safe to drive
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Respond to emergencies
  • Support an environment that encourages inquiry, wonder, and intentional risk-taking
  • Interact with children and staff parents in a way that fosters empathy, curiosity, and confidence
  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees
  • Constantly exhibit a guest service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in guest comfort and service
  • Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist guests with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the guest – do not wait to be asked
  • Remove trash and debris from the bus and public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it
  • Be knowledgeable on nature and zoo-related program topics as well as different delivery methods for Early Childhood
  • Monitor location, safety and well-being of all students
  • Attend the San Antonio Zoo’s orientation and other necessary training courses
  • Adhere to all policies set forth by the San Antonio Zoo
  • Enforce all San Antonio Zoo restrictions and limitations
  • Be flexible and positive in handling last minute changes in program agenda
  • Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
