About the Role We are looking for a Business Affairs Production Manager which is a critical liaison, managing the contractual and compliance aspects of creative productions. The Advertising team creates branded content for the gamut of The New York Times's advertisers. Our work takes many forms — reported articles, documentary style videos, animations, photo essays, social posts, podcasts, interactive data visualizations, event activations, and Newsroom sponsorships. It ranges from unbranded reportage to branded profiles focusing on our partners' products, services, or people. This is a New York City based position, where you will report directly to the Director of Business Affairs at our HQ location in a hybrid fashion.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of experience in business affairs, contract management and contract negotiations with an emphasis in advertising and content production with an established publisher, online media publication, or ad agency
  • Knowledge of licensing, intellectual property, rights and clearances and digital content distribution
  • Experience communicating across multiple seniority levels including Program Management, Finance and Production teams
  • Experience creating efficiencies by refining and improving processes and workflows
  • Experience working with third-party vendors or production companies on complex productions

Responsibilities

  • Liaison between creative teams, Business Affairs, Finance and third-party production vendors
  • Administer and negotiate content provider and other services agreements and releases for a variety of production disciplines (video, photography, illustration, audio, non-celebrity talent, etc) using company provided templates
  • Summarize, communicate and assess contractual obligations with multiple teams (Program Management, Finance, etc.)
  • Help manage issues related to copyright, trademark compliance and licensing
  • Flag potential legal, compliance or third-party rights considerations and, under guidance of Director, provide solutions to advise teams on next steps
  • Help with clearance of third-party content, including researching rights holders and securing permissions to use
  • Oversee the administration, management and tracking of contract life cycles through to final execution and payment
  • Update applicable status information in enterprise procurement software, team shared drives or other trackers
  • Ensure that third-party production partner payments adequately reflect agreed upon terms
  • Perform ad-hoc administration and operational tasks and occasional special projects
  • Work with internal creative partners to track third-party content provider expenses to overall program production budget
  • Ensure all content provider agreements accurately reflect agreed-upon positions with client agreements
