Our Corporate office in Ballston Spa is looking for a Buyer Assistant! The Buyer Assistant position is one of a support role for the purchasing dept, primarily for the buyers. They will assist the buyers with program implementation, maintenance, and the running of reports both when requested and proactively. They also will be tasked with executing timely and accurate orders to optimize sales and inventory investment. Starting between $22-24 hourly with annual performance based raises.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred but not required, with a minimum of 2 years clerical/purchasing experience
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills both verbally and in writing with an emphasis on quality writing skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of coworkers, managers, and customers
  • Advanced math skills.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and problem-solving skills to analyze needs and to recommend the proper course of action
  • Proficient keyboard and computer skills including Microsoft office and other Company and discipline specific software applications.
  • Valid Drivers’ license acceptable to Curtis Lumber standards

Responsibilities

  • Acknowledge, greet, and assist internal/external customers in a timely and professional manner
  • Handle telephone and electronic inquiries efficiently and effectively
  • Identify the needs and provide the appropriate level of assistance to our customers, employees, and vendors
  • Schedule store visits either individually or alongside a buyer to network with the employees. The visits should be pre-arranged and with a set agenda to maximize the value for all parties involved.
  • Set up items in Inventory Database
  • Create Vendor Quote/Template for the new line skus
  • Work with Buyer to set initial inventory levels for branches
  • Set min/max levels for all branches on Purchasing Managed Programs
  • Run sales & usage reports for sales and on hand quantities in branches, share with Buyer
  • Regularly review all product lines for returns, cull, and damage
  • Maintain item information in the inventory database
  • Initiate changes to min/max settings according to Buyer directive
  • Work with Buyer to identify DWO items; execute DWO process
  • Enter and regularly track vendor credits and follow up when necessary
  • Maintain retail price pages on the CurtisDocs site
  • Maintain Vendor Quotes when costs change on products.
  • Review and process transfer requests as necessary, defer to buyer when questionable
  • Help to resolve receiving issues and problems
  • Handle incoming branch inquiries regarding product
  • Create an order schedule/calendar for the Purchasing Managed Programs that you will be responsible for procuring.
  • Review branch stock orders, modify and submit
  • Communicate order changes to the branch placing the order
  • Confirm orders and link to POs
  • Update due dates on POs
  • Work with the buyers on show/special buys, building orders based on the set criteria
  • Process price changes under the guidance of the buyers, including standard price updates, contract pricing, promotional pricing, and DWO pricing.
  • Work with Buyer to ensure appropriate changes are made in advance of advertising promotions
  • Input pricing from Buyer to Purchasing Quote Request and submit to sales. (backup for the administrative asst.)
  • Assist the buyers in collecting competitive pricing from local competitors as requested.
