BYU Online High School Teacher The BYU Online High School teacher reports directly to and works closely with the school’s assistant principal. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable, highly collaborative, and dedicated educator who works well with other teachers, administrators, students, and parents to ensure a positive, productive, and academically enriching semester-based high school experience. This is a year-round teaching position in an online teaching environment. Note: This is a part-time position (28) hours per week.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or in the subject taught, completion of teacher education training, current Utah teaching license, and relevant subject endorsement(s) (English, History, Math, or Science); must maintain certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Utah state and national standards, instructional best practices, and assessment methods.
  • Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills; detail-oriented self-starter able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to listen, empathize, and effectively engage with students and parents from diverse backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education or in the subject taught, with teacher education training, current Utah teaching license, and relevant endorsement(s).
  • Experience developing or facilitating online instruction.
  • Strong working knowledge of learning management systems, online learning best practices, and web-based instructional technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Student Online Class Instruction Facilitate and manage synchronous targeted instruction in a virtual classroom using BYU Online High School curriculum, aligned with Utah state and national standards, FERPA, graduation requirements, and established policies. Apply online teaching best practices, strategies, and technology to meet diverse learning styles and student needs.
  • Student Support Ensure student comprehension, provide supplemental resources, hold office hours, and coordinate tutoring, mentoring, and onboarding for students and parents. Communicate regularly with students and parents while implementing accommodations and differentiated support to meet diverse needs.
  • Curriculum Development Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts to develop online courses and assessments aligned with standards, copyright law, accessibility requirements, and instructional best practices. Utilize Canvas LMS and other technologies to enhance instruction and support student success.
  • Student Assessment and Data Development Monitor academic progress, attendance, and performance; analyze data to provide recommendations and support for course and exam success. Grade assignments with meaningful feedback, implement best practices in assessment and proctoring, and use data to track progress toward measurable goals.
  • Professional Development and Collaboration Engage in professional development, collaborate with stakeholders, mentor teachers, and perform related duties to support continuous improvement and effective operations.
