About The Position

The Child and Adolescent Division of the Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full time Position for a Child/Adolescent Psychologist in Colorado Springs. Please note this is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experiences and qualifications as indicated below. The Child and Adolescent Psychologist will provide direct patient care to children, adolescents, and their families in two settings. The primary of these is at the Children’s Hospital Colorado – Colorado Springs Hospital on the Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison service. The C/L Service is available to children and adolescents receiving inpatient medical care at CHCO. Consults are requested from a wide range of medical services (e.g., Hospital Medicine, Intensive Care, Surgery) and typically include individual and family-focused assessment, consultation, and intervention. Referral concerns include diagnostic clarification (e.g., disordered eating, somatic symptom and related disorders), safety evaluations, impact of mental health symptoms on adjustment/coping with chronic illness and hospitalization, medical adherence, quality of life, behavior problems, pain management, mental status, and delirium. The psychologist will provide brief, short-term consultation/intervention services to patients and families. The C/L Psychologist will work on the service in collaboration with a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, as well as engaging in multidisciplinary collaboration with medical professionals at CHCO (e.g., physicians, nurses, child life specialists, social workers, and physical/occupational/speech-language/respiratory therapists. The psychologist may also provide services within the Emergency Department to support patient care needs. The psychologist will also provide direct patient care at the Children’s Hospital Colorado Telstar location. This includes diagnostic, assessment, treatment, and discharge planning for youth with a variety of mental health concerns including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, emotional distress and difficulty regulating emotions, self-harm, suicidality, post-traumatic stress, difficulty communicating with others, and other behavioral challenges. The outpatient program provides evaluation and mental health treatment for children and adolescents who experience mental and behavioral health challenges but are able to function and remain safe at home, at school, and in their community. Youth treated in outpatient settings typically attend individual or family therapy once weekly. They may also receive medication evaluation and management from another provider in the clinic such as a Psychiatrist or Advanced Practice Nurse. The Child and Adolescent Psychologist would be responsible for developing and implementing an individualized, family-centered, trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment plan for the patients and families in their care.

  • Instructor/Senior Instructor/Assistant Professor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or a related degree
  • Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado
  • Must have significant prior experience in a psychiatric setting serving children and adolescents
  • Completed an APA-approved Ph.D. or Psy.D training program, including an APA-approved internship.
  • Associate Professor: 4-7 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or a related degree
  • Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado
  • Must have significant prior experience in a psychiatric setting serving children and adolescents
  • Completed an APA-approved Ph.D. or Psy.D training program, including an APA-approved internship.
  • Professor: 7+ years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or a related degree
  • Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado
  • Must have significant prior experience in a psychiatric setting serving children and adolescents
  • Completed an APA-approved Ph.D. or Psy.D training program, including an APA-approved internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience after completion of post-doctoral fellowship in child and adolescent psychology clinical work.
  • Experience working in an APA accredited training program.
  • Experience leading or collaborating on program development, quality improvement, or clinical research initiatives
  • Ability to conduct diagnostic interviews, crisis evaluations, and employ use of evidence-based assessments.
  • Ability to develop treatment goals and plans, as well as evaluate treatment progress and make appropriate changes, when needed
  • Strong foundation in behavioral and cognitive behavioral theory.
  • Well-versed in evidence-based treatments and ability to flexibly apply these interventions with fidelity across a wide range of presenting concerns.
  • Knowledge of research and quality improvement methodology, as well as ability to independently conduct research and/or quality improvement projects.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide effective supervision to mental health trainees and consultation to other mental health professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care to children, adolescents, and their families, including completing diagnostic evaluations, as well as providing evidence-based individual, family, and group therapy.
  • Develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans and engages in ongoing treatment monitoring
  • Collaborates with internal and external providers involved in a patient’s care as needed in order to coordinate on the treatment plan and progress
  • Maintains timely communication with team members, supervisor, and divisional leadership.
  • Supervise, teach, and mentor psychology trainees and consult with other mental health providers.
  • Engage in program development, quality improvement, and/or research projects.
  • Serve on committees, task forces, and/or workgroups.
  • Enters appropriate notes and charge captures that comply with state and federal standards in the medical record for all patients seen.
  • Other duties as assigned
