About The Position

The CAD Engineer is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, and design layouts for steel structures and components. This role works closely with project engineers, production, and quality teams to ensure all designs meet technical requirements, manufacturing feasibility, and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have strong CAD expertise, keen attention to detail, and a solid understanding of steel fabrication and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Drafting & Design, or related field.
  • Must have SolidWorks experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in CAD design or drafting within the steel manufacturing, fabrication industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, or Inventor required; experience with Tekla Structures or similar software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication methods, weld symbols, and structural design principles.
  • Familiarity with material standards (ASTM, AISI) and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, assemblies, and drawing creation for fabrication and assembly.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in design work.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate 2D and 3D CAD models and detailed fabrication drawings for steel components, assemblies, and structures.
  • Interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and project requirements to generate precise design outputs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant with standards.
  • Create bills of materials (BOMs) and maintain design documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support product and tooling design for new product development and process improvement initiatives.
  • Revise and update existing drawings and designs to reflect changes or improvements.
  • Participate in design and project review meetings to resolve technical or design-related issues.
  • Ensure all CAD data and drawings adhere to company and industry standards (e.g., AISC, ASTM).
  • Provide technical support to fabrication, welding, and assembly teams as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in design processes, CAD templates, and data management systems.
