About The Position

The Calibration Technician is responsible for managing and executing calibration activities for measurement tools and equipment across the shop to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to quality standards. This role performs routine calibration checks, supports machining operations through measurement verification, and manages third-party calibration vendors. The position plays a critical role in maintaining measurement integrity and supporting continuous improvement in inspection practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience performing equipment calibration in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
  • Experience working in a metrology lab environment required.
  • Experience managing calibration programs and vendor calibration services required.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand dimensional tolerances.
  • Familiarity with quality systems and calibration documentation practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify measurement discrepancies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with machinists, inspectors, and engineering personnel.
  • Organized work habits with the ability to manage multiple calibration schedules simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Calibration certification or formal training in metrology, dimensional measurement, or related discipline preferred.
  • Technical degree, trade school training, or equivalent experience in precision measurement strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily calibration checks and verification of shop measurement tools, gauges, and instruments.
  • Maintain calibration records and ensure all equipment complies with company quality procedures and applicable standards.
  • Identify tools requiring calibration or verification and coordinate calibration schedules to ensure continuous operational readiness.
  • Manage external calibration vendors, including coordinating shipments, service schedules, and documentation.
  • Conduct spot checks of measurements used by machinists and operators to ensure measurement accuracy and consistency.
  • Work closely with machine operators and supervisors to identify measurement discrepancies and resolve issues.
  • Verify measurement tools used on lathes, mills, and other machining equipment.
  • Serve as a floating inspection resource for rotor and revamp cells when in-process inspection support is required.
  • Assist with verification of critical dimensions during machining operations.
  • Mentor and support machine operators on proper measurement techniques and the correct use of inspection tools.
  • Support initiatives to bring additional calibration capabilities in-house to reduce external calibration costs.
  • Participate in improving calibration processes and documentation practices.
