About The Position

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor the Camp Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and implementing the summer camp programs offered at all sites by the River Trails Park District. The Camp Coordinator is responsible to the Recreation Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Minimum of three years’ experience supervising children.
  • Must have a high school diploma, college degree preferred.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively with campers, parents and park district staff.
  • Possess ability to work well with the general public, park district employees and participants.
  • Experienced in training, supervising, motivating and evaluating staff.
  • Driver’s License or ability to obtain.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid/CPR certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the park district’s policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner.
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline and language with program participants and staff.
  • Attend any meetings the Recreation Supervisor schedules.
  • Schedule and oversee meetings with Site Supervisors.
  • Oversee the summer camp staff at camp sites with the assistance of the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Purchase and control necessary supplies and equipment with approval from the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Assist with evaluations of camp staff at mid-summer and end of camp season.
  • Help with pre-camp set-up which will take place during the two weeks prior to the start of camp.
  • Assist Recreation Supervisor with developing and leading camp training for seasonal camp staff.
  • Assist Site Supervisors and Camp Counselors and help them to advance their skills.
  • Participate in, observe and evaluate camp activities on a daily basis.
  • Serve as a liaison between each camp’s staff and the Recreation Supervisor and/or between school personnel and park district when it applies.
  • Hand in all accident/incident reports to Recreation Supervisor.
  • Communicate with parents on a professional level.
  • Conduct counselor/child confidentiality (refrain from discussing a camper or camper’s abilities with another person).
  • Review the lesson plans and submit a copy to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Assist Recreation Supervisor with coordination of camp field trips, and wow factors.
  • Notify the Recreation Supervisor of any complaints, safety or major health hazards or uncontrollable discipline problems.
  • Wear staff shirt every day.
  • Wear bathing suit on swim days.
  • Wear appropriate shoes, clothing, etc.
  • Make sure all equipment is put away neatly and promptly after use.
  • Report any equipment damages, needed supplies and shortages to Recreation Supervisor immediately.
  • Be on time and prepared for camp each day.
  • Plan and attend all camp events, i.e. parent night etc.
  • Help clean up at the end of the summer.
  • Must wait until all campers have proper means home before leaving.
  • Collect and review payroll before turning it in to Recreation Supervisor.
  • Monitor accurate attendance files for both campers and counselors.
  • Approve camp newsletters submitted by Site Supervisors.
  • Perform other duties and functions as requested by the Recreation Supervisor
