About The Position

Wintergreen's Camp Wintergreen Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising children ages 3- 12 years of age to ensure their visit to Wintergreen is fun, safe, and educational. Camp Wintergreen is a daily and/or weekly summer recreation-based camp facility that follows guidelines from the Virginia Department of Social Services. All employees are expected to maintain safety standards in a responsible manner. Qualified candidates will be comfortable working directly with children, supervising and guiding activities, both indoors and out, while also communicating with parents, children, and other staff members.

Job Availability: June 2026-August 2026

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Need to have previous experience working with children

Nice To Haves

• Priority is given to those who are First Aid/CPR certified and/or have other child related training; have a valid VA Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Arts and crafts, hiking, swimming, indoor and outdoor games, and other age appropriate activities.
• Help write and implement a weekly schedule for children in attendance.
• Help parents and families with the enrollment of children in our program.
• Maintain an organized ledger of attendance and payments
• Work with director, supervisor and other counselors on creating an employee schedule that best fits the needs of the camp and children in attendance.
• Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week.
• Identify and respond to behavior issues.
• Ensure that the building is kept clean.
• Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
• Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for the children’s’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
• Applicants must be available for a flexible schedule to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
