POSITION SUMMARY:Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintain safety of children at all time through appropriately supervising program participants at all times while maintaining YMCA and state licensing staff to child ratios, providing aid when needed, and ensuring daily cleaning and maintenance of facility. Assists in implementing age-appropriate techniques relative to the behavior management of children. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Must attend and manage students during all field trips. Attends staff meetings and trainings. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associates Degree preferred. Must complete all licensing training within 30 days of hire. Experience: 1-year experience working with children; in a day camp setting preferred. Experience in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc… preferred Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Certifications and Requirements: At least 18 years of age Required to be fingerprinted Medical clearance and Immunizations CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date. Must receive ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) licensing certification within 30 days of hire. Technical Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics. Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
