About The Position

The Camp Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the camp experience, ensuring a sage, engaging, and inclusive environment for campers and staff. This role involves planning and implementing diverse activities, managing camp operations, and fostering positive relationships with campers, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the program.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise a comprehensive camp program that includes arts, sports, games, and outdoor activities.
  • Implement field trips and swim outings (if applicable) ensuring supervision and safety protocols.
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging camp environment that emphasizes teamwork and fun.
  • Conduct staff orientation, manage schedules, and hold regular meetings to evaluate camp staff performance.
  • Establish camp rules and safety protocols.
  • Maintain open communication with families and promptly address camper difficulties or injuries.
  • Group campers according to ratios and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Oversee transportation logistics, including drop-off/pick-up procedures.
  • Manage electronic camper files through designated software and ensure accessibility during off-site activities.
  • Monitor first aid kit supplies and ensure staff have travel kits.
  • Manage accident and incident reporting, ensuring timely notification of parents/guardians and supervisor.
  • Oversee medication dispensing (if applicable), ensuring secure storage and accurate records.
  • Maintain and inventory camp supplies and equipment, requesting replenishments as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of camp facilities and outdoor areas.
  • Promptly notify supervisor of any issues or needs.
  • Manage the lost and found program.
  • Organize lunch provisions (if applicable).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and departmental-specific safety rules.
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects 30 pounds or less.
  • Reports any work-related or patron injuries to supervisor promptly.
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.
  • Must work closely with co-workers and the general public.
  • Experiences ongoing concerns for all safety and liability issues.
  • Must have ability to deal with other people under stressful situations.
  • May have to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR are required.
  • Lifting is occasional, usually 30 pounds or less.
  • May need to respond to situations quickly and accurately.
  • Will be required to work during various weather conditions, including hot temperatures.
  • Must be knowledgeable about subject matter and constantly strive for improvement.
  • Must use good judgment at all times and be aware of immediate surroundings.
  • Must be able to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner.
