About The Position

CAMP INSTRUCTOR-Seasonal Seasonal (June - August) ~ Part-Time (Approximately 28-38 hours per week) (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-3:30pm) $19.25 - $19.75 an hour Do you enjoy educating and supervising a class of children in a day camp setting while implementing humane education and science-based curriculum? Do you have the ability to commit to 1 week of training from Mon -Fri 5/25-5/29, and 8-10 out of 12 weeks of camp from June 1-August 21st. Will work at most 3 weeks in a row and then a light or off week. If so, apply now for a fun filled summer at the renowned Helen Woodward Animal Center. As a Camp Instructor you will a ttend to the safety and wellbeing of animals, clients, and volunteers by organizing setup and cleanup of program spaces and monitor children's interaction with live animals in a positive environment using positive group management techniques. You will also gain experience in supervising and directing teenage volunteer aides and positive interaction in dealing with clients. Helen Woodward Animal Center is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted in any HWAC building or vehicle.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum high school diploma
  • Experience teaching and supervising children ages 4-12 years in classroom or group environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience handling small mammals, birds, invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, and hoof stock
  • Experience teaching outdoor, humane, or zoo education classes
  • Knowledge of interpretive techniques, learning styles, and child development stages
