About The Position

The Arc Eastern Connecticut has been providing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for more than 60 years. We actively champion for full community inclusion and are a licensed and contracted service provider of the Connecticut Department of Development Services. We provide residential, daytime, employment, and social supports to people with IDD and their families. The Camp Administrator is responsible for serving as the administrator of the camp residential program. He/She will adhere to the policies established by The Arc of New London County, Inc. Board of Directors whose goal is to maintain full community inclusion and integration for all individuals who are supported by The Arc. Come join our team!

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred.
  • Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Applicants must possess basic computer aptitude and be able to speak/write in English.
  • The Administrator must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. He/She will be required to participate in lifts, transfers, and behavioral or physical intervention when necessary. He/She may be exposed to risk of injury or exposure to occupational health hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare session paperwork and contact care providers regarding missing paperwork.
  • Prepare camper profiles for Assistant Directors to review prior to the start of the session.
  • Supervise the registration process at the beginning of each session through communication with nursing staff and care providers.
  • Maintain close communication with individuals, families, providers, and medical staff regarding camper medications and medical conditions.
  • Provide on-site supervision to Camp Director and Camp Nursing Staff
  • Maintain horseback riding paperwork and submit copies to High Hopes weekly.
  • Facilitate weekly staff meeting with Camp Director and Assistant Directors to review performance and program celebrations and identify any focus areas for improvement in the upcoming session.
  • Maintain all DDS certifications, adhere to all DDS policies pertaining to the camp environment/program and organize required documentation.
  • Maintain all Youth Licensing certifications, adhere to all Youth Licensing policies set forth by The Department of Health and organize required documentation.
  • Participate in DDS and Youth Licensing camp inspections.
  • Monitor funds.
  • Maintain positive relations with other camp and Camp Harkness DDS personnel.
  • Create and submit session meal counts to cafeteria staff at the beginning of the season. Submit weekly counts for all special diets to the cafeteria by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday – beginning of session.
  • Attend Camp Harkness Director meetings.
  • Prepare paperwork archives and store according to Arc guidelines.
  • Maintain a mature and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public, and outside representatives!
  • Advocate for and protect participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures.
  • Treats all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and to encourage opportunities that promote choice.
  • Carry out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.
  • Attend agency Board of Director meetings when requested by supervisor.
  • Ensure confidentiality as required by law and The Arc and DDS policies and procedures which includes keeping records, conversations, correspondence (regarding program participants and staff) confidential.
