About The Position

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor & the Camp Coordinator, the Site Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and implementing the summer camp programs offered at an individual site of River Trails Park District. The Site Supervisor is responsible to the Camp Coordinator & Recreation Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum of one year experience supervising children.
  • Must have a high school diploma, college degree preferred.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively with campers, parents, and park district staff.
  • Possess ability to work well with the general public, park district employees, and participants
  • Experienced in training, supervising, motivating and evaluating staff.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the park district’s policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner.
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline and language with program participants and staff
  • Attend any meetings the Camp Coordinator & Recreation Supervisor schedules.
  • Oversee the summer camp staff at the site with the assistance of the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Finalize the details for the camp program trips.
  • Purchase and control necessary supplies and equipment with approval from the Camp Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor
  • Complete evaluations of camp staff at mid-summer and end of camp session.
  • Help with pre-camp set-up which will take place during the two weeks prior to the start of camp.
  • Assist Camp Counselors and help them advance their skills.
  • Participate in, observe and evaluate camp activities on a daily basis.
  • Serve as a liaison between each camp’s staff and the Camp Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor.
  • Hand in all accident/incident reports to Recreation Supervisor
  • Communicate with parents on a professional level.
  • Conduct counselor/child confidentiality (refrain from discussing a camper of camper’s abilities with another person).
  • Assist counselors in planning weekly lesson plans.
  • Review the lesson plans and submit a copy to the Camp Coordinator &/or Recreation Supervisor.
  • Notify the Camp Coordinator &/or Recreation Supervisor of any complaints, safety, or major health hazards or uncontrollable discipline problems.
  • Wear staff shirt every day.
  • Wear bathing suit on swim days.
  • Wear appropriate shoes, clothing, etc.
  • Make sure all equipment is put away neatly and promptly after use.
  • Report any equipment damages, needed supplies and shortages to Camp Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor immediately.
  • Be on time and prepared for camp each day.
  • Plan and attend all camp events, i.e. parent night etc.
  • Help clean up at the end of the summer
  • Remain at camp site until all campers are safely picked up
  • Collect and review payroll before turning it in.
  • Organize and run weekly staff meetings with counselors.
  • Set up group rosters prior to the start of each session.
  • Maintain accurate attendance files for both campers and counselors.
  • Assist with camp newsletter each session.
  • Perform other duties and functions as requested by the Camp Coordinator & Recreation Supervisor
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the safety program of the River Trails Park District.
