About The Position

The Canine Trainer will conduct initial training testing/validation of canines in order to validate proper olfactory capabilities, behavioral suitability, and physical traits for entrance into the program.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Be able to pass the medical and physical requirements outlined in the contract.
  • Meet all standards as required by the contract.
  • Have a clean driving record with a valid driver’s license.
  • Obtain and hold a Secret Security Clearance (current, active clearance preferred).
  • Must possess a national/state/provincial military or law enforcement certification as an explosives detection working dog trainer.
  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing as a military, law enforcement, or commercial security canine trainer. This experience must have been earned, in part, within the last (5) five years.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience as a WPSIII/WPSII Canine Trainer (CT)

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily maintenance training (i.e., performance and explosives detection) and maintain training records for assigned detection dogs.
  • Collect and maintain accurate records relating to the imprinting and training of contract canines.
  • Maintain the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned detection dogs.
  • Maintain all assigned canine-related equipment
  • Perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed.
