About The Position

Overview: Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System is a 170-bed hospital serving an eight-county region in East Tennessee’s Lakeway Area. The facility includes more than 20 emergency suites, advanced laboratories, radiology, and therapy services, and a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence for mammograms, biopsies, and nurse navigation. The Women’s Center features six modern labor and delivery suites and a secure nursery for newborn care. Position Summary: Provide assistance to the cardiologist or cardiac surgeon in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and angiography procedures, measuring cardiovascular parameters such as cardiac output, blood flow velocity, cardiovascular dynamics, cardiac electrophysiology parameters, intracardiac shunt detection, valve flow/valve area determinations, intracardiac pressure measurements, oximetry determination, cineangiocardiography, and the measurement and calculation of cardiac function indices. The technologist assists in all phases of catheterization procedure including insertion of the catheter, operation of various electronic instruments and calculation of hemodynamic data.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
  • Minimum Experience: 6 (six) months experience within an invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory that performs invasive cardiac catheterization and associated procedures. Education clinical experience for certification and/or licensure is acceptable.
  • Licensure Requirement: Must hold current registration as a: CCI Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) and/or CCI Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) and/or ARRT RT(R) - preferably with a VI or CI category designation. Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical expertise and knowledge of unit are such that complex patient management and physician issues are resolved independently.
  • Serves as a role model to others by assuming the role of the team leader, responsibilities of a preceptor, cross-trains to other areas and provides education to the community and department.
  • Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in complex clinical skills to include; IABP, stents, DCA, complex PTCA's, Alblations and Pacemakers.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in cardiac anatomy and physiology, correlating pressure wave forms and rhythm analysis.
  • Proficient in patient assessment, monitoring and sterile technique as required.
  • Assists in the maintenance and effective use of all equipment and supplies in the clinical areas.
  • Maintains patients’ confidential records, reports and files.
  • Responds appropriately and timely to patients, physicians and other customer’s needs.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the entire life span
  • Six (6) credit hours of providing inservices per year.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Completes required education assignments annually.
  • Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
