The Caregiver provides non-medical personal care and supervision to residents in a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE). The role supports residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) while promoting dignity, safety, and independence in compliance with California Title 22 regulations. 1. Personal Care Assistance Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting Provide incontinence care Assist with ambulation, transfers, and mobility devices Support residents with eating and hydration 2. Medication Assistance (per Title 22) Assist with self-administration of medications Document medication assistance accurately Observe and report side effects or medication concerns Follow facility medication policies and physician orders Note: Caregivers in RCFEs do not perform skilled nursing tasks unless separately licensed (e.g., LVN/RN). 3. Supervision & Safety Provide continuous supervision as required by resident care plans Monitor for fall risks and behavioral changes Respond promptly to emergencies Follow infection control and safety procedures 4. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate daily care logs Report changes in condition to supervisor or administrator Follow Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines 5. Social & Emotional Support Provide companionship and emotional reassurance Encourage participation in planned activities Support residents’ independence and quality of life

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Must complete RCFE Initial Training (minimum 10 hours before working independently) and dementia care training. Training provided upon hire if not already completed.
  • Complete annual continuing education (20 hours per year). Provided upon hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Clear criminal background check (DOJ & FBI Live Scan)
  • TB clearance
  • Compassion, patience, and professionalism
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow care plans and state regulations
  • Physical stamina and safe lifting techniques
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Lift and transfer residents (25–50+ lbs)
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach frequently
