About The Position

BRIC is a leading arts and media institution anchored in Downtown Brooklyn whose work spans contemporary visual and performing arts, media, and civic action. For over forty years, BRIC has shaped Brooklyn’s cultural and media landscape by presenting and incubating artists, creators, students, and media makers. As a creative catalyst for their community, BRIC ignites learning in people of all ages and centralizes diverse voices that take risks and drive culture forward. BRIC is building Brooklyn’s creative future. BRIC seeks a Carpenter, BCBF who will assist in special projects that will be assigned by the Production Supervisor. Must be skillful with carpentry and using power tools while also helping to create a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Mission & Values Alignment: A passion for BRIC’s support of the arts in Brooklyn and a deep commitment to building community, igniting learning and making change through the arts and creativity.
  • 5 + years of experience in carpentry, site construction experience in preferred
  • Knowledge of safety practices when using power tools
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Communication & Relationship Building: An emotionally intelligent, values- and results-driven leader who can inspire staff and collaborate across departments and at all levels of the organization, and provide feedback and coaching to support the achievement of goals. Highly skilled communicator and relationship builder, both individually and in large audiences or public communications.
  • Commitment to Equity & Inclusion: Brings experience operationalizing equity within the Performing Arts and or Hospitality function.

Responsibilities

  • Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames, rafters, partitions, joists and stud work
  • Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges and closures
  • Selecting lumber by size and strength to suit each job, sourcing wood
  • Calculating the number of fasteners required for each job
  • Reading blueprints and designs to work to specifications prepared by other construction professionals, architects and building code recommendations
